وَوَهَبْنَا

And We gave
لِدَاوُۥدَ

to Dawood
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ
sulaymāna
Sulaiman
نِعْمَ
niʿ'ma
an excellent
ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ
l-ʿabdu
slave
إِنَّهُۥٓ
innahu
Indeed, he
أَوَّابٌ
awwābun
(was) one who repeatedly turned
﴾30﴿
إِذْ
idh
When
عُرِضَ
ʿuriḍa
were displayed
عَلَيْهِ
ʿalayhi
to him
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ
bil-ʿashiyi
in the afternoon
ٱلصَّـٰفِنَـٰتُ
l-ṣāfinātu
excellent bred steeds
ٱلْجِيَادُ
l-jiyādu
excellent bred steeds
﴾31﴿
فَقَالَ
faqāla
And he said
إِنِّىٓ
innī
Indeed, I
أَحْبَبْتُ
aḥbabtu
[I] preferred
حُبَّ
ḥubba
(the) love
ٱلْخَيْرِ
l-khayri
(of) the good
عَن
ʿan
over
ذِكْرِ
dhik'ri
(the) remembrance
رَبِّى
rabbī
(of) my Lord
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattā
Until
تَوَارَتْ
tawārat
they were hidden
بِٱلْحِجَابِ
bil-ḥijābi
in the veil
﴾32﴿
رُدُّوهَا
ruddūhā
Return them
عَلَىَّ ۖ
ʿalayya
to me
فَطَفِقَ
faṭafiqa
Then he began
مَسْحًۢا
masḥan
(to) pass (his hand)
بِٱلسُّوقِ
bil-sūqi
over the legs
وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِ
wal-aʿnāqi
and the necks
﴾33﴿
وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And certainly
فَتَنَّا
fatannā
We tried
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ
sulaymāna
Sulaiman
وَأَلْقَيْنَا
wa-alqaynā
and We placed
عَلَىٰ
ʿalā
on
كُرْسِيِّهِۦ
kur'siyyihi
his throne
جَسَدًۭا
jasadan
a body
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
أَنَابَ
anāba
he turned
﴾34﴿
