and give you respite
إِلَىٰٓ

أَجَلٍۢ

مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ
musamman
appointed
قَالُوٓا۟
qālū
They said
إِنْ

أَنتُمْ

إِلَّا
illā
(are) but
بَشَرٌۭ
basharun
a human
مِّثْلُنَا
mith'lunā
like us
تُرِيدُونَ
turīdūna
you wish
أَن

hinder us
عَمَّا
ʿammā
from what
كَانَ
kāna
used to
يَعْبُدُ
yaʿbudu
worship
ءَابَآؤُنَا
ābāunā
our forefathers
فَأْتُونَا
fatūnā
So bring us
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ
bisul'ṭānin
an authority
مُّبِينٍۢ
mubīnin
clear
