وَإِذَا

قَالُوا۟

قَدْ

Verily
سَمِعْنَا
samiʿ'nā
we have heard
لَوْ

نَشَآءُ
nashāu
we wish
لَقُلْنَا
laqul'nā
surely, we could say
مِثْلَ
mith'la
like
هَـٰذَآ ۙ
hādhā
this
إِنْ
in
Not
هَـٰذَآ
hādhā
is this
إِلَّآ
illā
but
أَسَـٰطِيرُ
asāṭīru
tales
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
﴾31﴿
وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
قَالُوا۟
qālū
they said
ٱللَّهُمَّ
l-lahuma
O Allah
إِن
in
If
كَانَ
kāna
was
هَـٰذَا
hādhā
this
هُوَ
huwa
[it]
ٱلْحَقَّ
l-ḥaqa
the truth
مِنْ
min
[of]
عِندِكَ
ʿindika
from You
فَأَمْطِرْ
fa-amṭir
then (send) rain
عَلَيْنَا
ʿalaynā
upon us
حِجَارَةًۭ
ḥijāratan
(of) stones
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
l-samāi
the sky
أَوِ
awi
or
ٱئْتِنَا
i'tinā
bring (upon) us
بِعَذَابٍ
biʿadhābin
a punishment
أَلِيمٍۢ
alīmin
painful
﴾32﴿
وَمَا
wamā
But not
كَانَ
kāna
is
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
(for) Allah
لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ
liyuʿadhibahum
that He punishes them
وَأَنتَ
wa-anta
while you
فِيهِمْ ۚ
fīhim
(are) among them
وَمَا
wamā
and not
كَانَ
kāna
is
ٱللَّهُ
l-lahu
Allah
مُعَذِّبَهُمْ
muʿadhibahum
the One Who punishes them
وَهُمْ
wahum
while they
يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
yastaghfirūna
seek forgiveness
﴾33﴿
