عَبَسَ
ʿabasa
He frowned
وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
watawallā
and turned away
﴾1﴿
أَن

جَآءَهُ
jāahu
came to him
ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ
l-aʿmā
the blind man
﴾2﴿
وَمَا
wamā
But what
يُدْرِيكَ
yud'rīka
would make you know
لَعَلَّهُۥ
laʿallahu
that he might
يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
yazzakkā
purify himself
﴾3﴿
أَوْ
aw
Or
يَذَّكَّرُ
yadhakkaru
be reminded
فَتَنفَعَهُ
fatanfaʿahu
so would benefit him
ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ
l-dhik'rā
the reminder
﴾4﴿
أَمَّا
ammā
As for
مَنِ
mani
(him) who
ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
is'taghnā
considers himself free from need
﴾5﴿
فَأَنتَ
fa-anta
So you
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
تَصَدَّىٰ
taṣaddā
give attention
﴾6﴿
وَمَا
wamā
And not
عَلَيْكَ
ʿalayka
upon you
أَلَّا
allā
that not
يَزَّكَّىٰ
yazzakkā
he purifies himself
﴾7﴿
وَأَمَّا
wa-ammā
But as for
مَن
man
(he) who
جَآءَكَ
jāaka
came to you
يَسْعَىٰ
yasʿā
striving
﴾8﴿
